I have struggled for days in garnering the steely will and sturdy courage to pen down words of homage befitting the incredible character that young Emmanuel Nuku Reeves, Jr. represented throughout his short but impactful stay in the sphere of the living.
There are obviously words of happiness about the treasured moment we had, via my connection to your father Nuku Senior, and collectively, albeit too brief. Yet, there are words of sorrow to try and communicate what we are feeling, now that ER, as he was affectionately called, has left us unbeknownst.
But maybe, most of all, there are words of strength, of hope, of power, of resilience and of tender love that can bring us all together to cross these choppy waters and come out the other side with a gleam of light across the wave; because these moments are not entirely sad or entirely happy, but are a combination of both emotions that are never fully defined.
For me, Emmanuel was a fiery spark full of determination. He was smart, challenging and encouraging; always looking to grow and better himself personally and professionally.
He was as selfless as he was determined to leave a mark of positive impact on everyone whose path he may have crossed.
Small Nuku, was a direct replica of his father, Senior NUK, who got things moving progressively in his late teens as he began his professional career.
ER, made the role his own during the 35 years he spend on this earth defined by grace, elegance and a tireless work ethic, defying the odds and expectations placed on him.
His example is a reminder of who is parents are today.
One of the most remarkable aspects of Emmanuel’s character was his unwavering commitment to honesty. He believed deeply in doing what was right, not what was easy; and he stood firm in his beliefs, even in the face of adversity. But more so, brother ER was an epitome of profound humility and innately connecting and networking with people from all walks of life. His empathy knew no bounds – he listened, he cared, and he acted for the good of humanity.
He had a unique way of finding joy in the simplest things. He believed in the importance of bond and acquaintance, the power of humor, and the value of creating lasting memories.
His presence was a source of joy and comfort, not just for his family but all and sundry, and his persona was a melody that resonated in the hearts of those who heard it. While it is profoundly heart-piercing for me to express my balloon of grief and sorrow, it is as well honoring to remember your amazing personality and to thank you for the love you shared, the wisdom you imparted, and the exemplary life you led.
You may have been an ordinary man, but you exhibited extraordinary qualities that made you more than just a great man. You were a pillar of strength, a beacon of hope, and a source of inspiration to your family, friends and associates.
Unfortunately, the unwelcomed visitor stepped in, snatching away a rare gem and unsung young hero who was so full of life; leaving us reminded again that in the midst of life, there’s death.
Emmanuel, you may be no more physically present with us, but you have left us with good memories that will forever be etched in our hearts; and no matter how much time passes, we will continue to miss you.
I wish you farewell in your journey to eternity, while I pray God’s intervention in granting your parents and loved ones the courage and strength to mourn your passing, looking up to the Heavens because the earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal. Yes, for we are all entreated to find comfort in the fact that you, Emmanuel, have been called from labor to rest; having fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith.
And we can only hope that there is reserved for you the crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give to you on that great getting up morning, and not only to you but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
It was certainly a privilege to have been a part of your life’s journey; though much too short, but a life well lived and your memory will continue to remain in our hearts while your legacy will continue to inspire and guide us.
This is in recognition of your life and legacy during your time with us ERSLEEP ON, YOUNG HERO! SLEEP ON, BROTHER ER!!TILL WE MEET AGAIN, GOOD BYE!!
