BROOKLYN PARK — City leaders in Brooklyn Park are seeking to reassure residents amid heightened fear and anxiety stemming from increased federal immigration enforcement efforts across the region.

In a statement released to the community, city officials emphasized that Brooklyn Park’s top priority remains the safety, dignity, and well-being of every resident, regardless of background or immigration status.
The city also acknowledged a separate tragedy that has deeply affected the region. Officials expressed sorrow over the shooting death of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, offering condolences to her family and others impacted by the violence.
Mayor Hollies Winston underscored the importance of trust between residents and local government, noting that public safety depends on strong community relationships.
“Brooklyn Park’s strength comes from trust,” Winston said. “We are focused on maintaining public safety, and ensuring that every family, regardless of background, can live without fear.”
City officials warned that when residents are afraid to interact with government agencies, community trust erodes and public safety suffers. To address those concerns, Brooklyn Park reiterated that it does not enforce federal immigration laws. The city’s role, officials said, is limited to preserving life, maintaining public safety, and keeping the peace.
Brooklyn Park leaders stressed that residents should feel safe seeking help, reporting crimes, and accessing city services without fear. Maintaining open lines of communication and trust with the community remains central to the city’s approach, according to the statement.
To further support residents, the city has compiled immigration-related and community support resources on its website and plans to update them as new information becomes available.
City officials encouraged residents to stay informed and engaged, reaffirming that Brooklyn Park remains committed to being a place where all families can live with dignity and security.
