Statement by Senator Saah H. Joseph
As we move towards another historic election comes October 10, 2023 , the election is intended to enhance the progress of the maturity of our democracy and peace.
I am urging all Liberians, especially The Peace Loving People of Montserrado County to uphold the values of peace during these elections period.
I will like to categorically and vehemently condemn the violence actions that occurred between the supporters of ALCOP and CDC on October 8, 2023.
I’m calling on all parties to remain calm, as we wait a speedy investigation into the situation.
As Senator of Montserrado county, I will like to extend my sympathy to all victims , including injured, people who properties got during the time of the unfortunate situation.
Electoral violence undermines and undercuts inclusive electoral processes which is one of the fundamental pillars Democratic governance .
Therefore, we as leaders must be tolerant of each other at all times.
Please be peaceful as we go to choose our leaders wisely tomorrow.
Nonetheless , when I arrived on the scene of the incident Yesterday, I managed to speak to both supporters of the CDC and the ALCOP lay down the stones during the fracas.
The both parties respected me as Senator of Montserrado County, they listened to my request for them to lay down all the stones and they did it happened at Small St. Michael Junction on Japan Freeway.
I recalled ALCOP supporters and CDCIANS lay down their stones and allowed us to pass through.
It’s unfortunate, unacceptable and dismaying to me to have heard that the situation escalated and people were injured and properties got destroyed.
Thanks again for your respect rendered me and the confidence you continue to bestow on me as Senator of Montserrado County.
May God almighty continue to bless Montserrado County, yea MAMA Liberia.
