Prutuslyn Sackie has officially launched her first book titled Teenage Musings.
Prutuslyn a 12th grade student of the AISM uses her story to inspire and motivate her peers to work harder and to see life as a challenge but such can be overcome through resilence and persistence.
Speaking at the official launching ceremony was former Education Minister George Werner who reflected that for too long, women and girls have been denied access to education, ownership of property, and positions of leadership barriers that limit their life opportunities in every way.
He stated that despite these challenges, storytelling has been a powerful and enduring tradition in African culture.
“Through stories, we pass on wisdom, history, and values from one generation to the next”, he said.
According to him, storyteller serves as the community’s library, preserving the essence of who they are and where they have come from.
However, he was quick to point out that storytelling is more than just a record of the past, it is a tool for liberation.
He told the gathering at the launching ceremony that there is immense power in telling your own story and in your own voice stating that True independence begins when a woman can share her story in a way that captivates others, inspires them to listen, and compels them to act.
Moreover, he pointed out that through storytelling, one can spark change, improve their communities, and liberate others as they liberate themselves.
Provding other importance of Storytelling he indicated that it also offers a space for reflection, self-evaluation, and spiritual growth and iIt allows one to connect with their inner selves and with a higher purpose and by telling their stories, they find their voice, their strength, and hope.
“Prutuslyn, today we celebrate your courage in sharing your story. Through “Teenage Musings,” you have explored the depths of love, solitude, longing, duality, the heart, mortality, and immortality and in your reflections, you have also found hope, a hope that resonates deeply with all of us, Thank you, Prutuslyn, for your bravery in telling your story”, he encouraged the young author.
Mr. Werner wish that the words of the author will inspire others to find their own voices, to share their stories, and to change the world in the process.
He highlighted one of the lines from the book stating that “We are all stories waiting to be told.
He stressed that the story of the author reminds the gathering of the narratives each of them carries within stories shaped by their experiences, dreams, struggles, and triumphs.
However, he disclosed that the stories of women and girls have often been overlooked or erased.
Making reference to the Holy Bible, In the Gospel of Matthew, when Jesus fed five thousand people, the women and children were not counted. This exclusion reflects a broader reality: the voices of women and girls have been marginalized, their stories untold.
These stories are often rooted in pain, subjugation, deprivation, and neglect.
However, he hailed Ms. Sackie for telling her story and encouraged others to do same in order to have their voices heard.
