President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has termed as historic and welcoming , the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Liberia and a Chinese Company for the construction of refinery in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County as well as other technical projects in Liberia.
The MOU signing ceremony witnessed by President Boakai and his delegation came on the sidelines of the Liberian leader’s trip to China.
As part of the investment meeting with the National Investment Commission representing Liberia on one hand and the Sremek International Development Corporation of China on the order hand saw the two officials putting pen to paper to mark what they both considered as a landmark achievement for the two parties and the beginning of mote to come.
Speaking following the signing ceremony in a happy mood, President Boakai said his government and people are happy for such Development.
“Thanks for reposing confidence in our Country and this speaks of a share vision and prosperity which we continue to speak about”, he noted.
According to him, the signing is a testament and demonstration of working together as well as believing in one another.
President Boakai reflected that Liberia had a refinery yes ago and upon the completion of the planned new one, it will be a new day for the Country.
The signing of the MOU he stressed is the beginning of many more good relationships ahead for Liberia.
Extending invitation to the Chinese to come to Liberia, President Boakai assured the body that the project will bring a lot to the Liberian community including neighboring Countries.
Earlier , a representative of the Chinese Company speaking following the signing stated that they are pleased to invest in Liberia.
He assured the Liberian delegation that they will do their best to ensure that they move the project forward very soon beginning with a visit to the Country.
“We have potential as part of the project to also invest in new energy”, he added.
With less than a year under the Unity Party led government, the MOU signing for such an investment in infrastructure has been welcomed by Liberians by back home and across the globe as they await the practical implementation soon.
