“WE WILL NOT EAT THE COUNTRY’S FUTURE” — PRESIDENT BOAKAI COMMISSIONS $1.6M MODEL SCHOOL IN KAKATA.

Kakata, Margibi County – Liberia — The President of the Republic of Liberia, Joseph Nyuma Boakai, has expressed gratitude to the people of Margibi County during the commissioning of a new senior secondary model school in Kakata.

In his address, President Boakai emphasized a shift in national priorities toward development, accountability, and improved living standards. He noted that Liberia is moving away from a past where many citizens focused only on daily survival, stressing that the current period demands delivery of quality services and opportunities for the people.

The President warned against the misuse of government resources, particularly public equipment known as “yellow machines,” stating that such assets must be used strictly for development purposes. He highlighted the importance of changing the national mindset, encouraging citizens to focus on building the country rather than seeking opportunities elsewhere.

Education was identified as a central pillar of national development, with the President describing the newly commissioned school as an institution that will help nurture future leaders and strengthen the country’s human resource base. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing quality education and better facilities for Liberian students.

Education Minister Highlights Importance of the Project

Liberia’s Minister of Education, Jarso Maley Jallah, described the new Kakata Senior Secondary Model School as a major step forward in improving access to quality education.

She explained that the project was implemented through a partnership between the Government of Liberia and the World Bank, and is designed to bridge gaps in both access and learning outcomes.

The facility includes 15 classrooms, science laboratories for physics, chemistry, and biology, an information and communication technology lab, solar and water systems, and sports facilities. The school has the capacity to accommodate up to 1,000 students and is expected to significantly reduce overcrowding in Margibi County.

The Minister noted that the project initially faced delays due to contractor performance issues but was successfully completed following corrective measures and improved supervision.

The government emphasized that the school is not just an infrastructure project but part of a broader strategy to improve the quality of education across Liberia. Authorities indicated that the institution will be closely monitored to ensure it operates effectively and maintains high standards.

Students, teachers, and community members have been encouraged to take responsibility for the school and ensure that it serves as a center for academic excellence and development.

The commissioning of the model school represents a continued effort by the government to invest in education and create better opportunities for young people across the country.
