Cold Spring, Minnesota – A 30-year-old Liberian caregiver was fatally stabbed while on duty at a group home in Cold Spring, Minnesota, in what authorities describe as a deadly attack carried out by a resident of the facility.
The victim, Glapoujay Garmondeh, was working Saturday night at the St. Luke Home, operated by Catholic Charities of the Diocese of St. Cloud, when police say he was attacked by 33-year-old Luke McLane.
According to investigators, witnesses told police that McLane chased Garmondeh outside the facility, knocked him to the ground, climbed on top of him, and allegedly shouted, “I’m going to kill you.”
When officers and emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene, they found Garmondeh suffering from a stab wound to the neck. Despite emergency response efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said the suspect was located nearby with blood on his clothing and a knife in his hand.
According to the criminal complaint, officers also heard McLane tell the victim, “I told you I was gonna do it.”
McLane has since been charged with second-degree murder and assault with a dangerous weapon. He is currently being held without bail pending further court proceedings.
In a statement following the tragedy, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of St. Cloud, Garmondeh’s employer, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, saying his coworkers have been left devastated by the fatal incident.
The organization is working to support staff members and others affected by the tragedy as the investigation continues.
The death of Garmondeh has also sent shockwaves through Minnesota’s Liberian community, where he is being remembered as a hardworking and compassionate individual dedicated to caring for vulnerable members of society.
