ST. PAUL, Minnesota – July 15, 2026 – Minnesota United FC has assured supporters that all tickets purchased for the canceled international friendly against Liberia’s Lone Star National Football Team will be fully refunded.
In a statement posted on its official website, the Major League Soccer club confirmed that fans who bought tickets for the July 26, 2026 match at Allianz Field will automatically receive refunds within approximately three to ten business days.
The club announced the refund process after confirming that the highly anticipated fixture had been canceled in coordination with the Liberia Lone Star National Football Team and event organizers, Strengthening African Resilience towards Excellence (SARX).
“Fans who purchased tickets to the match will be refunded within approximately 3-10 business days,” Minnesota United said.
The match, which was expected to coincide with Liberia’s 179th Independence Day celebrations, had generated significant excitement among soccer fans and the Liberian community in Minnesota and across the United States. It would have marked Minnesota United’s first international friendly against a senior national team while providing Liberia’s Lone Star with its first visit to the United States since 1992.
Although the club did not specify the reason for the cancellation in its announcement, it acknowledged that the decision resulted from “circumstances outside of our control.”
“While we were looking forward to welcoming the Liberia National Team and celebrating the strong ties between Minnesota’s Liberian community and our club, circumstances outside of our control have made it necessary to cancel the match,” the club stated.
Minnesota United also thanked supporters for their understanding and wished the Liberia National Team success in its future engagements.
The cancellation came after event organizers, SARX, disclosed that several key members of Liberia’s delegation were denied U.S. entry visas, making it impossible for the team to travel to Minnesota in time for the historic encounter.
With the fixture now officially called off, supporters who had already secured their seats are being encouraged to monitor their original payment methods, as refunds are expected to be processed automatically over the coming days.
