Springfield, PA USA — The Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC–USA) National Convention brought together party leaders, delegates, members of the Liberian diaspora, youth representatives, and community stakeholders for a series of discussions focused on strengthening democratic participation, national development, and the future of Liberia. Through the Youth and Diaspora Engagement Forum, Opening Ceremony and Policy Forum, and panel discussions, participants emphasized the importance of inclusive leadership, innovation, and renewed commitment to good governance.
Youth Political Participation and Innovation
Speakers stressed that Liberia’s future depends on empowering its young people, who make up the majority of the country’s population. Delegates noted that youth should not only participate during election campaigns but should also be represented in party leadership, policymaking, governance, and public service. Calls were made for leadership academies, mentorship programs, internships, and civic education initiatives to prepare the next generation of leaders.
Technology and innovation were identified as essential tools for expanding political participation. Participants encouraged the use of digital platforms, online town halls, entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence, and constructive policy discussions to strengthen civic engagement. The forum also urged greater inclusion of young women, persons with disabilities, rural youth, and disadvantaged communities to ensure that every Liberian has an equal opportunity to contribute to national development.
Cultural Exchange and Community Dialogue
During the Opening Ceremony and Policy Forum, delegates highlighted the important role played by Liberians living abroad. The diaspora was recognized for contributing knowledge, professional expertise, investment, humanitarian support, and cultural diversity to Liberia’s development. Speakers encouraged greater collaboration through cultural festivals, educational exchanges, youth mentorship, professional networking, investment forums, and community service initiatives.
Participants emphasized that despite political differences, all Liberians share a common responsibility to promote unity, peaceful dialogue, and national reconciliation while preserving Liberia’s rich cultural heritage.
Panel Session: Renewal for Results
Under the theme “Renewal for Results,” participants called for meaningful reforms that go beyond changes in political leadership. Discussions focused on improving education, healthcare, infrastructure, economic opportunity, transparency, accountability, and equal justice under the law. Delegates stressed that public trust can only be strengthened through integrity, responsible leadership, and open communication.
The forum also emphasized expanding opportunities for women, young people, and persons with disabilities to participate fully in public life while protecting democratic institutions and promoting national unity.
Governance, Democracy, and Diaspora Participation
Panelists reaffirmed that democracy flourishes when citizens actively participate in shaping their nation’s future. Good governance, they said, requires transparency, accountability, constitutional respect, judicial independence, and equal opportunities for all.
The Liberian diaspora was described as one of the nation’s greatest assets, contributing through remittances, investments, education, humanitarian assistance, and professional expertise. Delegates recommended stronger partnerships between government, political parties, and diaspora communities to encourage investment, policy consultation, youth development, and knowledge-sharing.
Participants concluded by reaffirming their shared commitment to building a peaceful, democratic, accountable, and prosperous Liberia where every citizen—including women, young people, persons with disabilities, and marginalized communities—has an equal opportunity to succeed.
Conclusion
The convention concluded with a call for unity, responsible leadership, and sustained collaboration between Liberians at home and abroad. Delegates expressed optimism that through youth empowerment, inclusive governance, innovation, and constructive diaspora engagement, Liberia can continue advancing toward a more stable, prosperous, and democratic future.
