Accuracy and verification
We verify material facts before publication, identify sources whenever appropriate, and distinguish confirmed information from allegations, analysis and opinion. Headlines, photographs and captions must fairly represent the underlying report.
Independence
Editorial decisions are made independently of advertisers, sponsors, political interests and personal relationships. Payment for advertising or sponsored content does not purchase favorable news coverage. Sponsored material is clearly labeled.
Fairness and right of reply
People and organizations facing significant criticism or allegations should receive a reasonable opportunity to respond. Their response, or a note that they did not respond by publication time, should be represented fairly.
Sources and attribution
We prefer named, first-hand sources. Anonymous sources are used only when the information is important, the source has credible knowledge, and disclosure could create a legitimate risk. Information from other publishers is credited.
Opinion and analysis
Opinion, commentary and analysis are labeled so readers can distinguish them from straight news reporting. Authors remain responsible for factual claims within opinion pieces.
Conflicts of interest
Journalists and contributors should disclose financial, political, family or other interests that could reasonably affect—or appear to affect—their work. KMTV may reassign or decline coverage when a conflict cannot be managed.
Images, privacy and harm
Images and recordings must not be materially altered in a misleading way. We exercise particular care when reporting on children, victims of violence, medical matters and private individuals, balancing public interest against avoidable harm.
Artificial intelligence
Technology may support research, transcription, translation or production, but editorial staff remain responsible for verification, context, originality and the final published work. We do not knowingly publish fabricated quotations, images or facts.
