Buchanan City: The 3rd Parliamentary Session of the Mano River Union Youth Parliament (Liberia Chapter) kick’s off December 14, 2023 under the theme: ” Enhancing Youth & Students Participation in Achieving the Nation’s Agenda for Reconciliation, Peace and National Unity”.
Guest speaking at the opening session of the MRUYP Bong County district #2 representative, and former speaker of the Parliament James M. Kolleh said it’s important that young people are conglomerating not for any bad motive but to look deep into the scheme of things, searching for answer to some of the questions of peace, reconciliation and national unity that have perennially bedeviled the growth and development of a nation and the advancement of livelihood of it’s people.
He also added that the second factor advances the thoughts of working with your own kinds as the avant -guards, jointly harnessing your efforts and mobilizing, not the material and financial resources but also strongly catalyzing your mental, spiritual and moral prowess for the good of a nation.
The Bong County district #2 lawmaker added that young people should take into consideration and acknowledged that there are many factors that cannot be expatriate, noting that the thoughts of enhancing the participation of Youth and students in championing reconciliation, peace and national unity could not have come at any better time than now, indicating that Liberia had just emerged from a bitterly contested presidential and legislative elections in which it was witnessed by tense political campaign marred by heightened tension and campaign violence.
The Liberian Leader said the unfortunate political fight deepened the wounds of the Country and weakened the spirit of reconciliation, peace and national unity.
The Bong County lawmaker however noted that enhancing the participation of Youth and students is Youth empowerment and is grossly intertwined with interchangeably used to mean One and the same as gender equality, adding that Young people should focus on improving the youthful sector.
Meanwhile giving the opening statement & status of the Parliament, Daniel Nills ills Speaker of the 4th Mano River Union Youth Parliament. Said the MRUYP is making sure that young people in Liberia make up with their counterpart from others Mano River Union countries, Mr. Daniel Nills at the same time mention that the MRUYP is striving in achieving it’s goals due to low budgetary allotment from national Government. He however called on national leaders to see reasons in supporting the MRUYP in order to have it goal achieved.
