A group under the banner Resilient Intellectuals of Speaker Koon’s Legacy has re-emphasized that Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon remains committed to restoring accountability, peace , transparency and the rule of law at the Capitol Building.
The group’s latest statement comes in the wake of media reports in which Thomas N. Tweh Jr. A former representative candidate in District 11 Montserrado County who was disqualified by the National Elections Commission due to domicide issue alleged that Speaker Koon has failed to put his house in order something the group termed as far from the reality and a complete empty political statement.
However, the group through its Secretary General William Surity Harris maintained that Mr. Koon is the legitimate Speaker of the 55th National Legislature and is in total control of legislative activities at the grounds of the Capitol Building.
“Hon. Koon is the legitimate speaker of Liberia for the next five(5) years, and is a reality that some politicians and blind loyalists including praise singers of District #11 need to understand, Legislative politics is a game of number”, he re-emphasized.
Harris in a move to further justify his position outlined five reasons why Hon. Koon is and remains the current speaker of the House of Representatives to include: The Appearance of Government officials before him to answer why they should not be held in content, the submission of the 2025 National budget under the gavel of Speaker Koon and the presiding of Speaker Koon over the second SONA delivered by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.
He also highlighted the throwing out of the bill of information by embattled Speaker J. Fonati Koffa by the lower Court in Monrovia thus legitimizing Koon’s speakership as well as the full attendance of Diplomatic missions in Liberia, including America, at the SONA under Koon’s gavel amongst others.
The progressive group pen pusher stressd that gone are those days when people will gain political relevance at the expense of Speaker Koon.
As the political battle including war of words continue by supporters from both ends, Harris warned Tweh to focus more on finding a political direction.
” You need to firstly decide whether you want to contest as a presidential, representative, or senatorial candidate in the coming 2029 elections, but coming public to tell Speaker Koon to put his house in order we see it as being childish and the lack of understanding of National and local politics in Liberia”, he blasted.
The Resilient Intellectuals of Speaker Koon’s Legacy who branded Koon as District #11 godfather brags that they will defeat Tweh anytime elections are announced in District #11 because he (Koon) understands the political landscapes of District #11.
At the same time, the progressive group stated that Speaker Koon is now more concerned about improving the livelihood of his constituents in close working relationships with the rescue government and communities dwellers.
Speaker Koon Harris pointed out respect his constituents and is continuing engagements with his people in a drive to identify their needs and specific gaps in order to make direct and prompt intervention intended to benefit the people.
It can be recalled that Speaker Koon recently visited the Dixville Public School where new construction and renovation works at that public school facility are ongoing aimed at giving the students a conducive learning environment.
Under the ARREST AGENDA for Inclusive Development with focus on Education, Speaker Koon as an educator is upbeat to giving back to his people in said key sector and pillar and also remain firmed and committed in helping to transform the lives of his constituents in particular and the Liberian people in general.
