Scores of Protesters on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 sustained series of wounds during a peaceful protest at the grounds of the Capitol Building.
Dressed in dominent white and branded as concern citizens for the protection of Liberia’s constitution, the peaceful and harmless citizens received beating by the police in a drive to draw more public attention during the protest.
According to one of the Protesters and a renowned Liberian Lawyer, Cllr. Pearl Brown Bull, the action by the police was sad and unprofessional.
Cllr. Bull stated that the shooting by the police including the opening of tear gas on peaceful and harmless citizens who went to their lawmakers whom they elected was unfortunate.
” I been here since 7:00am and witnessed the entire thing, this was unprovoked and the police who should be protecting the people are the ones seen beating and shooting its own people “, this is sad, she re-emphasized.
The seasoned Liberian Lawyer stressed that the lawmakers are violating the constitution and are refusing to uphold the rule of law indicating further that the way forward in the current impasse at the house of Representatives is peace and for the rule of law to be upheld.
As a lawyer she pointed out that when the case is before the court, it is unprofessional to speak on such matter, however, she was quick to mention that the Supreme Court is the highest arbitor of justice as such, their opinion should be respected.
“I foresee trouble if this situation is not handle carefully and now”, she warned.
Cllr. Bull told reporters that their protest was very peaceful and was intended to raise the right flag in order for their lawmakers to do the rightful.
Among other things, the concern Protesters are demanding their lawmakers to respect and protect the Constitution of Liberia.
As calm has now returned to Capitol Hill, the seat of central government, several Protestors were also arrested by the police including, former aide to President George Weah, Sekou Kalasco Damaro.
