Monrovia, January 9, 2026 — The Government of the Republic of Liberia and the Government of the People’s Republic of China have signed a 100 million Renminbi (RMB) Development Cooperation Agreement aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and supporting Liberia’s national development priorities.
The agreement was signed Friday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Monrovia, reaffirming the two countries’ shared commitment to advancing peace, stability, prosperity, and sustainable development in Liberia through jointly agreed projects.
Signing on behalf of China, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Yin Chengwu expressed satisfaction with the agreement, describing it as strategically important to the growing China–Liberia partnership. He said the cooperation framework will align with Liberia’s national development plans, including President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr.’s ARREST Agenda.
Ambassador Yin noted that the agreement will prioritize projects that directly benefit ordinary Liberians, strengthen the country’s development foundations, and deliver long-term value. He expressed confidence that the new funding will inject fresh momentum into Liberia’s development efforts and improve the livelihoods of its people.
Foreign Affairs Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti signed on behalf of the Government of Liberia and conveyed President Boakai’s gratitude, along with that of the Liberian people, to the Government and people of China for their continued partnership and support.
Minister Nyanti described the agreement as timely and essential, emphasizing its role in deepening existing ties and accelerating Liberia’s economic and social development. She highlighted Liberia’s appreciation for China’s development philosophy, which places people at the center of progress and focuses on practical, results-oriented initiatives.
She further pledged Liberia’s full commitment to ensuring the effective and transparent implementation of the agreement for the benefit of the Liberian people.
The signing ceremony was attended by senior government officials, diplomats, and representatives of both governments, underscoring the importance attached to the expanding strategic partnership between Liberia and the People’s Republic of China.
