Monrovia, Liberia: The Liberia Standards Authority (LSA) has concluded a one day public review process on 32 standards for Cocoa, Coffee, Tea, and related products in the agriculture sector of the Country.
The daylong session which saw state and non-state actors converge at a round table, marks a significant step towards improving the quality and competitiveness of the nation’s agricultural exports.
“This move is part of a broader effort to align Liberia’s agricultural standards with international best practices, thereby enhancing market access and ensuring consumer safety”, says Kansualism B. Kansuah, director general, LSA.
The round table witnessed enthusiastic participants and/or discussants scrutinizing and providing feedbacks on thee 32 proposed standards to ensure that they meet the needs and expectations of both domestic and international markets.
According to the director Kansuah, the public review session aims to gather comprehensive input on the standards, cover various aspects of the production, processing, packaging, and labeling of cocoa, coffee, tea, and related products.
He noted, these guidelines will enhance product quality, promote sustainable agricultural practices, and ensure safety and traceability throughout the supply chain.
For his part, Deputy Agriculture Minister for Technical Services, Solomon Williams noted, defining a clear roadmap for grading cocoa, coffee, and tea will ensure consistency and reliability in quality assessments.
The deputy Agriculture Minister furthered, encouraging sustainable farming practices that minimize environmental impact and promote biodiversity is also a key factor for consideration for the review process.
