Liberia U-17 Tennis Team Set for ANOCA African Youth Games in Angola.

Liberia’s Under-17 Tennis team has arrived in Angola to participate in the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) 4th African Youth Games, a major continental multi-sport event bringing together young athletes from across Africa.

Representing Liberia at this year’s Africa Youth Tennis Tournament are rising talents Levi Bakar, Favor Gbana, and Bill Freeman. The trio is accompanied by Mr. Jeffery Martin, Assistant Head Coach of the Liberia Tennis Federation, who expressed confidence in the team’s readiness and determination to compete at the highest level.

The tournament officially begins today, December 10, and will run through December 20, 2025.

About the 4th African Youth Games

The Games, hosted by ANOCA, stand as one of Africa’s most significant youth sporting events. This year’s edition is being staged across six host cities in Angola:

Luanda (capital), Benguela, Bengo, Lubango, Huambo and Moçâmedes.

More than 54 African nations are participating, with athletes aged 14 to 17 competing in approximately 33 different sports disciplines.

Importance of the Games

Qualification Pathway: The competition serves as a crucial qualifying event for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, offering young athletes the opportunity to earn their place on the global stage.

Historic Significance: This edition coincides with Angola’s 50th anniversary of independence, adding celebratory significance to the Games.

A Continental First: Angola becomes the first Portuguese-speaking African nation to host the African Youth Games, marking a milestone in the event’s history.

Liberia’s Expectations

The Liberia Tennis Federation has expressed optimism that the young team will gain invaluable experience while showcasing their growing talent. Participation in such a high-profile competition not only elevates Liberia’s presence in African tennis but also provides the athletes with exposure to elite youth competition.
