Popular Liberian singer, songwriter, and record producer, S. Michael Davies popularity known as Sundaygar Dearboy has been named “National Identification Ambassador for Mobilization” by the authority of the National Identification Registry, the NIR.
The NIR is an autonomous government agency that operates and manages the National Biometric Identification System (NBIS) of Liberia.
Mr. Davies’ appointment comes at a critical moment when the NIR is in dire need of robust civic mobilization/education aimed at informing the citizenry about the significance of enrolling in the Country’s biometric system.
An official appointment communication in the possession of KMTV quotes the NIR Executive Director, Andrew Peters as saying, “To achieve the goal of enrolling the entire population of more than 5 Million people, needs a lot of work which includes vigorous awareness creation, and strong mobilization-involving key stakeholders including, influential personalities within the creative industry to encourage our people to get their citizen and resident ID cards noting, access to basic services will require 1 soon”.
“We are appointing Mr. S. Michael Davies as an ambassador for mobilization of the National Identification Registry of Liberia who will lead the mobilization aspect of the registry across Liberia in making sure that the registry achieves the desired objectives of the President. Therefore, as National ID Ambassador for NIR, you represent the Registry to promote, and to creative activities on social mobilization, amongst others aimed at helping the Registry achieve its statutory goals.
Meanwhile, the new NIR mobilization ambassador assured his new family of properly executing the duties and functions ascribed to his office in an attempt to yield maximum productivity as expected.
“We will mobilize and execute the duties beyond the imagination of the registry to the best of his ability as well as use our expertise in helping the NIR to reach the set benchmark in the stipulated timeframe. We will properly inform our people through irresistible creative means for the targeted goal of the NIR to be achieved”, S. Michael Davies, in an acceptance speech, told the gathering witnessing his appointment ceremony on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the headquarters of NIR in Congo Town.
He added that community engagement, mobilization, and promotion will be key areas of concentration as the registry embarks on its nationwide registration.
