Margibi County: The National Council of Chiefs and Elders in Collaboration with Liberia Crusaders for Peace with the support of the National Governor Council of Liberia ended a two-day Peace and Reconciliation Conference in Kakata.
The Conference brought together serval Chiefs and Elders from across Liberia, in order to have a peaceful dialogue ahead of the most anticipated October 10 elections.
However, Institutions that grace the occasion include the Liberia Council of Churches, Civil Society Organizations, the Human Rights Group, the Ministry of Gender, and the Muslim community.
In brief remarks, Chief Zarzan Karwor, head of Liberia’s traditional chiefs and Elders thanked the gathering for the mass turnout in gracing the occasion.
“We call all of you here so we can decide/ hang heads together on the way people have started talking all kinds of things to each other before the Election”.
Chief Zarzan Karwor at the same time admonishes political leaders to make use of the law if feel cheated after the election.
“We want that after the general elections, anyone who will get some problems with the results, he or she should go to the Law rather than going to violence response”.
He made these assertions at the start of the two days conference.
The Reconciliation gathering was held under the theme: “The peace we enjoyed must be kept, maintained, and supported by all”.
Meanwhile, Traditional leaders have endorsed a draft communication to be presented to the national legislatures ahead of the October 10 elections.
The draft resolution captured stronger measures to prohibit gay Rights and prevent elected and appointed government officials from aspiring for other positions while their tenures are yet to expire.
The draft resolution if acted upon by the Liberian Parliament and the president, will ban or restrain the possibility of gay practices including the possibility of sitting Representative contesting for the Senate seat.
According to the draft communication, a sitting representative aspiring for the Senate seat is a breed of conflict amongst national leaders and thereby, they will want them to abolish said decision.
In their communication, the chiefs and Elders also want the Stakeholders of Liberia to know and understand that the country is populated today because of constant sexual engagement between men and Women.
