Monrovia – The acting Director general of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA), J. Cyrus Saygbe has stressed on the transformative importance of Public-Private Partnership (PPPs) in advancing quality investment and sustainable development in the Aquaculture and the fishery sector of the country.
Director Saygbe, spoke recently when a representative of the Food and Agricultural organization (FAO) of the United Nations- Saud Boncie, paid a courtesy visit at his office.
According to the acting director general, public – Private Partnership (PPPs) can play a critical role in revitalizing Liberia’s fishery sector by merging public oversight with private sector innovation and capital-something he said offers a sustainable food security and promotes economic growth.
Saygbe used the occasion to extol the organization for its numerous contributions towards the fishery sector of Liberia, including the construction of a modern FAO-Thiaroye processing Techniques (FTT) facilities in Montserrado, Margibi and Grand Bassa counties.
He at the same time pleaded with the FAO and other multinational partners to help with the renovation of two key hatcheries in Tassah-Bong County, Douyee-Grand Gedeh County, highlighting their strategic importance in the expansion of Aquacultural operations across the country.
“These modern fish processing sites are helping food safety and product value in coastal communities”, Saygbe, noted.
Remarking at the brief dialogue, FOA representative, Saud Boncie, reaffirmed the united Nation’s commitment to supporting Liberia’s Fisheries and aquaculture development in technical expertise and pledged continuous cooperation with NaFAA to attract investment and promote Aquacultural growth.
