Over 585 residents in the vibrant community of Kru Town, Robertsport, are now homeless due to devastating sea encroachment.
This unfortunate turn of events has deeply affected the lives of 305 women and 280 men, including the most vulnerable members of society – the children.
The Liberia National Redcross Society, Cape Mount Chapter, has reported that those affected include pregnant and unmarried women, children, and males.
During an interview with KMTV Liberia , the Field Officer, Kama Kamara, expressed his concerns, stating that the sea continues to encroach upon the residents of Kru Town.
As a result, he recommended the relocation of the sea victims.
However, Kamara disclosed that there have been interventions from his institution as well as the authorities of Grand Cape Mount County.
The Cape Mount senator, Simeon B. Taylor, donated $LD50,000 and 1025kg bags of rice, while hygienic materials, such as soap, cups, toothpaste, buckets, and bath towels, were provided by Redcross’ institution.
Kamara also appealed to international organizations, the disaster management committee, and others to prioritize the well-being of the 585 sea victims.
He strongly expressed his concerns about the lack of shelter for the victims, emphasizing that they are currently sleeping on the floor.
