MONROVIA, Liberia (April 25, 2026) — Joseph Nyuma Boakai has ordered sweeping administrative reforms at the Liberia Airport Authority (LAA) following the conclusion of a government-backed investigation that cleared the institution of corruption but uncovered significant managerial lapses.
According to findings from a probe conducted by the Ministry of Justice, there was no evidence of corruption at the LAA. However, the report highlighted serious administrative shortcomings, including irregularities in hiring processes and strained relations between the Authority’s Board of Directors and its management team.
In response, President Boakai has directed LAA Managing Director Ernest R. Hughes to resume active duty after being previously sidelined during the investigation. The President also called on both the Board and Management to take “immediate and deliberate action” to resolve the institutional issues identified.
As part of the reform process, Boakai instructed that the Liberia Airport Authority Act be reviewed to address ambiguities and overlapping responsibilities between governance and operational leadership. The Board has been mandated to spearhead the reform initiative in collaboration with management and report back to the presidency within a specified timeframe.
In a separate development, the President announced the suspension of Josephine Greeves, Assistant Minister for Research, Planning and Policy at the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection. Greeves has been suspended without pay following her indictment by the Grand Jury of Criminal Court “A,” based on an application filed by the Asset Recovery and Property Retrieval Task Force.
Officials say the suspension will remain in effect pending the outcome of legal proceedings, in line with established standards of public accountability and due process.
Meanwhile, President Boakai also announced new appointments to several public institution boards. Floyd Thomas has been named Chairman’s Representative to the Board of Trustees of William V. S. Tubman University, while Jeremiah C. Sulunteh will serve as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Bong County University. Additionally, Charles Mulbah has been appointed as a member of the Board of Directors of the Central Agricultural Research Institute.
The Liberian leader urged all appointees to serve with integrity and dedication, emphasizing the need for strengthened governance and renewed commitment to national development priorities.
