President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has delivered his second State of the Nation address assuring Liberians that though the security of the state and the sanctity of the Republic may be assailed, may be threatened; however, it can never be broken but will be preserved.
According to him, no one’s personal ambition can ever outweigh the importance of the peace and security of the Nation.
“Now, a year after that historic transition, we face a MOMENT OF TRUTH that our democracy can be threatened by those who oppose our steady progress. However, the fact that we are reporting on our stewardship, here today, on the grounds of the People’s House —recently damaged by fire—highlights the resilience of the Liberian people, Likewise, the sacrifices made by generations who have worked tirelessly to preserve our democracy for nearly two centuries will not go in vain”, he re-assured his people.
Delivering his Address to the Nation, The Liberian leader stated that the rescue train is moving, as such urge those harboring mental reservations to hop on board in order for them to jointly proceed with the business of the Liberian people together.
He acknowledged that when his administration took power, they came with a clear agenda but was also aware that the journey ahead would not be easy.
“We started with a 100-day plan to implement immediate measures aimed at addressing the people’s needs and aspirations, providing relief from years of hardship and uncertainty”, he told the gathering.
In the wake of limited resources, President Boakai informed the body that his administration made real progress in many areas after the first quarter of last year.
He named improved public sector accountability and worked on road infrastructure while addressing issues in agriculture, health, education, technology, and drug abuse, alongside key legislation as areas of improvement during the course of the year.
“We recognize the immense challenges that lie before us, and though many problems persist, our country stands in a better place today than when we first began and I have dedicated countless hours to the welfare of the Liberian people, and with your unwavering support, we remain optimistic about the future promise of our nation. It is our faith in that promise that drives our vision for progress”, he added.
Meanwhile ,as Liberians discuss from different perspectives on President Boakai’s second address to the Nation, the ocassion on Monday at the grounds of the Capitol was not short of two key and noticeable issues including the absence of the full bench of the Supreme Court of Liberia and Lawmakers dissatisfaction over their sitting positioning which they termed as disrespectful.
