U.S.-Based Liberian Solomon Weawea Warns Lawmakers of Looming Legislative Impasse, Urges Diplomatic Push on Liberia–Guinea Border Dispute Over Internal Expulsion Fights

USA – Solomon Weawea, a Liberian national based in the United States, has urged members of the Legislature to avert what he described as a looming impasse by shifting focus from internal disciplinary actions to the unresolved border dispute between Liberia and Guinea.
“We need to focus on how we can get the Guineans out of our border through diplomatic means.
This is a priority and the Legislature needs to focus on it,” Weawea said in a statement released Over the weekend.
Weawea pointed to the 2025 removal of former House Speaker Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa as a cautionary precedent, characterizing the episode as a prolonged and difficult” chapter for the Legislature.
He said a compromise solution proposed three weeks into that crisis was initially rejected but ultimately adopted seven months later, “following significant hardship for the people of Liberia.”
He commended Koffa’s decision to step down during the standoff, stating that the former Speaker’s exit restored calm without requiring the opposing bloc to secure the 49 votes needed for his removal” and was made “in the interest of national stability rather than prolong the conflict.”
Weawea called for urgent legislative attention to the Liberia–Guinea border situation, describing it as a matter of national importance that warrants immediate diplomatic engagement.
At the same time, Weawea cautioned against moves to expel former Montserrado County District #10 Representative Yekeh Kolubah over recent public remarks.
He argued that such action would divert legislative attention from the border issue, which he insisted “should remain the Legislature’s top priority.”
