MONROVIA, Montserrado County —Agriculture Minister Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah has dismissed claims by some Liberian farmers that President Joseph Boakai’s Executive Order, signed June 26, 2026, was designed to benefit specific companies.
Speaking Thursday during the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing, Dr. Nuetah said the order was not intended to favor any company. Instead, he said it was crafted to address longstanding concerns raised by smallholder farmers across the country.
According to the Minister, consultations leading to the Executive Order began on August 24, 2024, after citizens and farmers complained that smallholders were not receiving adequate support and resources.
“In response to those concerns, the Ministries of Agriculture, Finance, Labour, and Commerce established an inter-ministerial committee,” Dr. Nuetah explained.
The committee engaged farmers directly and developed measures aimed at improving the sector through coordinated policy interventions.
Dr. Nuetah rejected suggestions that the Executive Order would negatively affect farmers, describing such claims as “false and misleading.”
He said the order is intended to increase government support for Liberian farmers and ensure they receive greater benefits through improved policies and better coordination among government agencies.
“The Executive Order is about strengthening our farmers, not undermining them,” he stated.
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening Liberia’s agricultural sector and improving livelihoods for farmers nationwide.
He urged farmers and stakeholders to review the provisions of the order and work with the Ministry to ensure its successful implementation.
