Egypt and Liberia Deepen Ties: Abdelatty and Nyanti Agree to Expand Trade, Capacity-Building and Coordinate on Sudan and UN Security Council Priorities

MONROVIA/CAIRO, – Egypt and Liberia have agreed to expand political and development cooperation, with a focus on trade, economic growth, and capacity-building, following high-level discussions between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Liberia’s Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti.

In the meeting, both ministers affirmed their commitment to broadening bilateral relations and exploring new areas of collaboration.

The talks centered on leveraging Egypt’s expertise and technical capabilities to support Liberia’s development agenda and advance shared interests across Africa.

The two sides discussed concrete opportunities to deepen economic and trade ties.

Egyptian officials expressed readiness to share experience in infrastructure, agriculture, and human resource development to support Liberia’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development.

Minister Nyanti welcomed Egyptian support and emphasized Liberia’s interest in partnerships that deliver tangible results for jobs, investment, and institutional strengthening.

Regional stability featured prominently in the discussions.

Developments in Sudan topped the agenda, with both ministers stressing the need for peaceful resolution of conflicts and sustained efforts to support security and stability across the region.

They reiterated support for African-led solutions to ongoing crises and underscored the importance of diplomacy as the primary tool for conflict resolution.

Liberia’s current non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council was also a key point of consultation.

The two ministers discussed ways to coordinate positions to advance Africa’s priorities and defend the continent’s interests at the Council.

Minister Nyanti noted that Liberia, as one of three African members on the Council this term, is committed to amplifying the voice of the continent on peace, security, and development issues.

Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Liberia’s role and pledged close coordination during Liberia’s tenure.

The meeting reflects growing engagement between North and West Africa, with both countries seeking to translate diplomatic goodwill into expanded economic and multilateral cooperation.
