ALJA Member Lassana Y. Bamba Appointed to St. Michael Planning Commission

ST. MICHAEL, Minnesota — Lassana Y. Bamba, a member of the Association of Liberian Journalists in the Americas (ALJA), has been unanimously appointed to serve on the St. Michael Planning Commission for a four-year term.

The appointment was made by Mayor Joe Hagerty and confirmed by the St. Michael City Council. Bamba will serve as one of six commissioners responsible for guiding development and land-use decisions in the growing Minnesota city.

The Planning Commission plays a key role in shaping St. Michael’s future by reviewing development proposals, zoning requests, land-use plans, and long-term growth strategies. The commission also makes recommendations to the City Council and has the authority to approve or deny variances when proposed projects do not align with city ordinances or the broader public interest.

In a statement announcing his appointment, Bamba expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and emphasized his commitment to transparency, integrity, and thoughtful leadership.

“I’m honored to have been unanimously voted and appointed to this position,” Bamba said. “As St. Michael continues to grow, I am committed to serving with transparency, integrity, and a focus on what is in the best interest of the community.”

Bamba’s appointment marks another example of civic engagement by members of the Liberian diaspora in the United States, particularly within local government and community development roles.
