BOLAHUM HEALTH CENTER IN LOFA SET FOR UPGRADE TO COMPREHENSIVE FACILITY UNDER GOV’T PHASE 3 TOUR

VOINJAMA, Lofa County – The Bolahum Health Center is being upgraded into a comprehensive health facility, with the Government of Liberia constructing a modern operating theater and fully equipped laboratory to expand healthcare access for residents in central Lofa.

The disclosure was made by the facility’s Officer-in-Charge during Phase 3 of the Yoko Gbeadeh Health Tour, an assessment of health facilities across the county.

In an exclusive interview, the OIC said the Ministry of Health is leading construction of the new structure aimed at improving service delivery and reducing referrals to distant hospitals.

“The upgraded facility will include a modern operating theater and a fully equipped laboratory capable of serving a larger number of patients and addressing a wider range of medical needs,” the OIC stated.

Health officials say the upgrade will strengthen emergency surgical care and diagnostic services for Bolahum and surrounding communities that currently travel long distances for basic procedures and lab tests.

The development aligns with government efforts to decentralize quality healthcare and reduce pressure on referral hospitals in Voinjama and Fendell.

The Yoko Gbeadeh Health Tour, now in Phase 3, is documenting infrastructure gaps and upgrades across Lofa to inform future Ministry of Health investments.

Local residents have welcomed the expansion, noting that a functional theater and lab at Bolahum could save lives during emergencies and improve maternal and child health outcomes.
