Congo Town, Liberia – Commissioner Edward Horton Lahai of the Township of Oldest Congo Town yesterday held a mass engagement meeting with residents of Peace Island, fostering open dialogue and strengthening collaboration between the local government and the community.
The meeting was described as peaceful and highly informative, providing residents the opportunity to raise concerns and receive clarity on pressing issues affecting the island. The engagement focused on creating a clear path forward for sustainable development and stability within the community.
During the discussions, the Commissioner disclosed that his office has handled over 200 land dispute cases involving residents of Peace Island. Through these hearings, the Township identified several administrative and legal lapses related to proof of ownership, documentation, and bonding processes.
In an effort to address these concerns, the Commissioner stated that his office will work closely with community leadership to ensure that the issues are resolved collectively in the best interest of the people.
He further reassured residents that the current government has no intention of removing anyone from Peace Island. At the same time, citizens were encouraged to collaborate with government authorities in correcting longstanding irregularities to ensure proper documentation and lawful ownership structures moving forward.
As local government officials, protecting the people remains a core responsibility. Commissioner Lahai assured the people of Congo Town that his administration will work diligently to correct longstanding issues and establish proper systems that will promote fairness, stability, and future prosperity.
