MONROVIA, LIBERIA — Former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor has arrived at the Monrovia City Court, where authorities are expected to unseal the indictment against her in connection with alleged drug-related offenses.
Her court appearance comes days after she was admitted to a local medical center following reports of health complications while in police custody.
The government has accused Howard-Taylor of involvement in an alleged transnational narcotics network. She has strongly denied the allegations, describing them as baseless and politically motivated.
The expected unsealing of the indictment could provide the first detailed account of the charges and the evidence prosecutors claim links the former vice president to the alleged offenses.
Howard-Taylor is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
