Moving towards a more transparent and accountable government, the Liberian government, through His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai, concludes the first batch of 150 persons, from ministries, agencies, and commissions aims to strengthen the fight against corruption and elevate Performances amongst the Public officials and institutions.
Speaking with Journalists, the director general of the cabinet, Nathaniel Kwabo, said the training is part of the President’s mandate issued for the adoption and implementation of the (PMCS) to ensure transparency, accountability, and service delivery in the public sector.
According to him, MACS focal persons will have the chance to set targets based on their mandates relating to the national development plan that is expected to roll out early next month.
These institutions and their leaders will sign a formal contract with the president outlining specific targets, along with a continuous monitoring system to assess progress toward achieving them.
Mr. Kwabo further explained that the process is inclusive, allowing participation not only from the central government but also from local governments.
Liberia is a country rich in natural resources but lacks a proper system, which is seen as an institutional weakness and a deficit in state capacity. To address this, measures are being implemented to ensure that officials operate within their mandates, particularly in the public sector he added.
Director General Kwabo also stated that phase two of the training will commence immediately after the current session concludes on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. This next phase will also involve focal persons from all 103 to 105 spending entities.
Speaking Further, participants expressed their gratitude to President Boakai for his intervention, which helped them better understand the workings of the PCM system. Among those offering remarks were Mark Paye from the Civil Service Agency, Richard Carter from the Liberia Electricity Corporation, and Comfort Tumbey from the National Housing Authority.
