About fifty adolescents and youth benefited from a day-long intensive capacity development training.
The program which is an initiative of West Africa Democracy Solidarity Network (WADEMOS) Next Gen Fellow, Sialyn H. Bockarie, and implemented by InfoQuest brought together adolescents and youths to discuss leadership, sustainable peace, and mental health and inform them about sexual reproductive health and rights.
The day-long session was also geared towards preparing Liberia’s next generation of leaders for sustainable democracy including their sexual reproductive rights.
During the training, participants mainly schoolgoing adolescents and youths capacity were enhanced in basic sexual and reproductive rights issues as well as good leadership skills in sustainable democracy.
The educative sessions with knowledgeable facilitators also feature key and specialized topics to include: Good Governance and Accountability, Mental health and Youth empowerment .
Others include, Sexual transmitted Infection (STI) and Awareness of MPOX virus which was also conducted by Infoquest’s partner Mertu Institute of Health and Laboratory Sciences.
At the same time, the role of the youth in Sustainable Peace was also another significant point of discussion during the session.
Named and styled, Youth Power, with the theme, Empowering Young People with Knowledge on Sustainable Democracy and Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) was an eye opener for many of the young people who also took advantage of the opportunity and actively engaged the knowledgeable facilitators during the training.
Among other things, the program is a long-term mentorship which will help young people to further develop their school health clubs and train them how to implement it.
Additionally, InfoQuest and partner, Mertu institute of health and laboratory sciences will work with students from 10th grade until their senior level including establishing the school leadership program as well.
The program which took place at the Sis. Iye School System in Barnesville was a rewarding one said one of the teachers.
Meanwhile, the participants thanked the organizers for the meaningful training and promised to utilize it for the benefit of the larger society.
