Monrovia, Liberia – The Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP) has kicked off its 2026 Annual Retreat for the Department of Economic Management, focusing on strategic reflection, alignment, and institutional reform.

The retreat, themed “Strategic Reflection, Alignment and Setting the Context,” brings together senior officials, technical staff, and stakeholders to evaluate performance, address challenges, and chart a forward-looking strategy for Liberia’s economic management.

Speaking during the retreat, Deputy Minister for Economic Management, Hon. Dephue Y. Zuo, emphasized the importance of building resilient institutions, noting that establishing structures is just the first step, and ensuring their sustainability and effectiveness is a greater challenge.

He encouraged participants to share insights on their roles, challenges, and ideas, highlighting the need for alignment and coordination within the Ministry.

The retreat will explore structural considerations, including the potential separation of the planning function, and address gaps in strategic planning and reforms.

Hon. Zuo stressed the importance of data-driven decision-making, capacity utilization, and workforce efficiency.

For her part, Assistant Minister for External Resources and Debt Management, Hon. Alice Williams, urged staff to reflect on their performance and contributions to national development, emphasizing that the retreat is an opportunity to identify gaps and find solutions.

The retreat features presentations, discussions, and breakout sessions on performance evaluation, structural reform, and strategic planning, aiming to foster a coordinated and responsive economic management framework for Liberia’s development agenda.
