Minnesota-Based Liberian Musician Wanted in Fatal Shooting of Children’s Mother

MINNESOTA — Minnesota authorities have issued a murder warrant for a Minnesota-based Liberian underground musician, Wesley Benedict Koboi, popularly known as “Wesofeeso,” who is accused of fatally shooting the mother of his five children following a domestic dispute.

According to multiple Minnesota news reports, Koboi is alleged to have shot and killed Shaniya Thompson on December 11. Law enforcement officials say the incident occurred at Thompson’s residence, where officers later discovered her deceased after one of the children contacted authorities.

Investigators allege that after the shooting, Koboi took the couple’s five children and drove them to Michigan, where he reportedly left them with his mother. Authorities believe he then traveled to the Canadian border, crossed into Canada on foot, and later boarded a flight to Mexico.

Police confirmed that Koboi was employed as a security guard with Brinks, a role that reportedly allowed him to legally carry a firearm at the time of the incident.

U.S. law enforcement agencies say they are working in coordination with Mexican authorities to locate and apprehend the suspect, who is believed to be on the run. Officials have urged the public not to approach Koboi and to immediately report any information regarding his whereabouts to Minnesota law enforcement.

Family Seeks Support

In a statement shared via a GoFundMe page, the victim’s sister, Shayna Jason, described the killing as a senseless tragedy that has left the family devastated.

“On December 11th, my sister, Shaniya Thompson, was tragically and senselessly taken from us after being shot by her children’s father,” Jason wrote. “He came into her home bearing gifts for my niece’s birthday, all while allegedly planning to kill her.”

She added that the couple’s five children witnessed the incident and are now grappling with the loss of their mother and severe emotional trauma. The family is seeking financial assistance to cover funeral expenses and to provide care and counseling for the children.

Authorities continue to investigate the case as the search for the suspect remains ongoing.
