ST. PAUL, Minn. — St. Paul resident Wesley Koboi has been arrested in Canada in connection with the fatal shooting of the mother of his five children, following a multi-agency manhunt that spanned international borders.
Koboi is accused of fatally shooting the woman inside her apartment on December 11 and is facing a charge of second-degree murder in Minnesota. Authorities say he fled the United States shortly after the killing.
According to court documents, after the alleged shooting, Koboi took the couple’s five children and drove to his mother’s home, where he stayed for about an hour before leaving the children in her care. Investigators say he then drove away in his brother’s vehicle without informing family members of his destination and stopped responding to phone calls.
Law enforcement officials later determined that Koboi crossed into Canada on foot and booked a flight from Canada to Mexico. He was arrested Tuesday morning at an airport in Toronto before he could board the flight.
Authorities confirmed that the arrest was carried out with the assistance of multiple agencies, including the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Marshals Service, the Toronto Police Service, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Koboi is expected to be extradited to Minnesota, where he will face second-degree murder charges. Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing.
The case has drawn widespread attention as officials continue to emphasize cross-border cooperation in bringing the suspect into custody.
