Monrovia, Liberia – June 22, 2026 – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has suspended Mr. Peter Malcolm King from his position as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL) with immediate effect, pending the outcome of an ongoing Joint National Security Investigation into the seizure of approximately 237.6 kilograms of cocaine at Roberts International Airport (RIA).
According to a release issued by the Executive Mansion on Monday, the President’s decision followed a briefing from the Ministry of Justice and the Joint Investigative Task Force, which identified entities associated with Mr. King among institutions and individuals requiring additional investigative scrutiny in connection with the high-profile narcotics case.
The Executive Mansion described the suspension as an administrative measure aimed at safeguarding the integrity of the investigation, maintaining public confidence in government institutions, and preventing any appearance of interference with the investigative process.
Officials emphasized that the action should not be interpreted as a determination of guilt or a prejudgment of the investigation’s outcome. Instead, the government said the suspension is intended solely to allow investigators to conduct their work independently, transparently, and without undue influence.
President Boakai reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to combating illicit drug trafficking and strengthening Liberia’s public institutions through accountability, transparency, and strict adherence to the rule of law.
The President also appealed to the public to remain calm, allow investigators to carry out their responsibilities without interference, and avoid speculation that could compromise the integrity of the ongoing proceedings.
The Executive Mansion further assured Liberians and international partners that every aspect of the investigation will be pursued thoroughly, impartially, and in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Liberia.
The statement was signed by Presidential Press Secretary Atty. Kula B.N. Fofana.
The suspension comes as authorities continue investigating the seizure of approximately 237.6 kilograms of cocaine at Roberts International Airport, a case that has drawn significant national and international attention and prompted a coordinated Joint National Security Investigation involving multiple government agencies.
