The Chief Executive Officer of Ocean Drive in Fish Market Wilson Nyannah has termed as sad and disappointing fire outbreak on one of his buildings on Sunday October 6, 2024.
The incident with no death reported, however led one customer unconscious and is currently seeking treatment at the Fidelity Hospital on 20th Street in Sinkor.
The building completely destroyed due to the aggressive fire had five rooms well furnished with under ground components.
The cost of the investment lost, Mr. Nyannah disclosed worth approximately 600,000USD and it is completely Liberian owned.
Even though not independently confirmed and verified but Mr. Nyannah believes that the cause of the fire is due to technical issues from the Liberia Electricity Corporation.
According to him, the situation prior to today was noticed by the manager of his entity and they made some initial attempts but such did not completely work out as they are not LEC personal.
“We noticed that the breaker had issues and tripped twice including the LEC light pole, we also called the LEC people to come and address the issue, but they did not show up not until the accident happened today”, he further explained.
The CEO of Ocean Drive said it was sad that he had guests in the building when the situation occurred, terming it as sad and unfortunate.
He indicated that he was happy that no death occurred and also hailed the kids and young people who ran on the scene to try and quenched the fire from further destruction.
“I am happy that the building did not extend to the big building in the compound and had it been so, we would have been discussing different thing but thanks be to God”, he noted.
He told the media that the facility for now will be shut down following the completion of the investigation by the police and reopen soon.
The Ocean Drive boss used the ocassion to encourage fire fighters and law enforcement officers to be robust and proactive in responding to disasters of such and many more because, they have spend a lot and the lost is sad and disappointing.
“I am very strong but it is not easy and I give all to God because vanity all is vanity and all are vanity”, he added.
