MONROVIA – The House of Representatives Plenary on Thursday accepted a formal apology from Rep. Marvin Cole of District #3, Bong County, following remarks that were deemed to violate parliamentary decorum.
Cole addressed the Plenary during its sitting and expressed regret for his conduct.
After deliberation, members accepted the apology, bringing closure to the matter on the floor.
Speaker of the House Hon. Richard Koon, in his ruling, thanked Hon. Cole for taking responsibility and using the apology to restore order.
He then cautioned all lawmakers to maintain proper decorum and conduct during legislative proceedings.
“The dignity and standards of this House must be upheld at all times,” the Speaker emphasized, reminding members that the credibility of the Legislature depends on discipline and mutual respect among colleagues.
He noted that heated debates are expected in a democratic body, but such exchanges must remain within the bounds of parliamentary rules and ethics.
In a lighthearted moment that eased tensions, the Speaker concluded his remarks with a joke that drew laughter and applause from lawmakers, signaling a return to normal proceedings.
The episode underscores ongoing efforts by House leadership to enforce decorum as the 55th Legislature handles contentious national issues.
Cole’s apology and its acceptance are expected to set a precedent for accountability on the House floor.
