MONROVIA, Montserrado County, – The Progressive Student Alliance (PROSA) has officially endorsed the planned protest by Solidarity and Trust for a New Day (STAND) scheduled for July 17, 2026, citing rising violations against students, youth activists, and citizens exercising constitutional rights.

PROSA Chairman Godwin K. Tarnue announced the endorsement Tuesday at the student organization’s headquarters on the University of Liberia’s main campus in Monrovia.

According to Tarnue, PROSA’s decision is informed by growing reports of attacks on freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, and democratic participation.

“Students have historically stood at the forefront of every major struggle for justice in Liberia and across Africa,” Tarnue stated.

“From the anti-colonial struggles of our forefathers to the fight against dictatorship and oppression, students have remained the conscience of society. Today, we must once again rise to defend the interests of the people.”

STAND, a civil society movement, has scheduled the July 17 demonstration to protest alleged rights violations and governance concerns. With PROSA’s endorsement, the protest is expected to draw significant student participation from the state-run University of Liberia and other institutions.

PROSA officials said the alliance will mobilize members to join the march peacefully and will work with STAND organizers to ensure the demonstration remains within constitutional bounds.
