The Speaker of the House of Representatives Richard Nagbe Koon has underscored the significance of legislative reconciliation at the House of Representatives.
Speaking to reporters Wednesday at his capitol building office, Speaker Koon said reconciliation plays a pivotal role in national decision making processes.
Speaker Koon as a means of practically executing a robust reconciliation effort at the House of Representatives, announced a plan two day reconciliation and rule of law program.
The program which will commence on March 6-7, 2025 will among other things discuss reconciliation and rule of law issues, modernization among others.
He told reporters that the Speakers of Ghana and Sierra-Leone respectively will attend the two days event and will share more insights on legislative reconciliation and rule of law issues.
The two Speakers, he stated will share their expertise and experiences with their fellow Liberian colleagues especially when they faced similar issue of removal of Speakers at their respective parliament yet there is no noise in their Countries , unlike Liberia.
According to him, removal is not strange in Africa and the world at large and it is part of legislative practices as such urged Liberians to look at the bigger picture.
Speaker Koon stressed that as part of the planned program, they will bring all lawmakers on board to participate in the two days event including suspended Lawmakers, this he indicated is a giant step forward towards legislative reconciliation and a clear demonstration that he as a leader and Speaker of the House is determine in the process of a genuine reconciliation for the benefit of the people.
” Our focus is to dialogue and discuss national issues in the interest of our people “, he added.
Speaker Koon also assured his colleagues through the media that under his watch as Speaker of the 55th National Legislature, he will change the dynamics at the grounds of the Capitol including its modernization.
“The House of Representatives will not always be the same, we will champion the course to picture a new and positive image about the House of Representatives to the public “, he re-emphasized.
Speaker Koon also disclosed that he has the support of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and will work along with the Government development plan, The ARREST AGENDA for Inclusive Development in order to better the lives of the people.
“I am a politician and I will remain focused and committed to working in the interest of my people and will not be moved by false and fake criticism”, he noted.
Ahead of the planned reconciliation and rule of law meeting in Liberia next Month, Speaker Koon also told the media that there are plans in the making for the adoption of their new rules to conform to present day reality including a South Eastern tour as modalities are still in the preparatory stage.
Meanwhile, he was quick to mention that these plus other initiatives are all packaged reconciliation and rebranding programs for the House of Representatives.
