Liberia’s Information Minister, Jerolinmek Matthew Piah, has warned petroleum businesses against arbitrarily increasing fuel prices amid global tensions affecting the oil market.

Speaking Thursday during the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing, Minister Piah said that the government is monitoring the global situation involving Israel, the United States, and Iran but will not allow local businesses to exploit the crisis.

According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of Liberia and the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company, gasoline remains at US$4.02 (LD 755) per gallon, while diesel has increased to US$4.33 (LD 810).

The government is watching, and we will not hesitate to take action against anyone found violating the regulations,” Minister Piah stated, emphasizing the importance of maintaining stability in the fuel market amid global uncertainty.

The move is seen as part of the government’s efforts to protect consumers and maintain economic stability in the face of external pressures.
