Monrovia, Liberia – Montserrado County District #16 Representative Dixon W. Seboe has called for a one-week extension of the current legislative session, citing escalating tensions between Liberia and Guinea.
In an address on Capitol Hill Tuesday, Seboe emphasized the urgency of the situation, with reports of Guinean soldiers encroaching on Liberian territory.
He urged colleagues to prioritize national stability, stating that the situation is not a mere border dispute, but an affront to sovereignty and a threat to peace and security.
“The situation is dire, and we cannot afford to abandon our posts and go on recess,” Seboe warned.
“Our responsibility is to protect our homeland, and that begins with taking decisive action together as one body.”
Seboe added that it’s the responsibility of members of the legislature to protect the motherland, and that begins with taking decisive action together as one body.
The opposition lawmaker’s remarks reflect a growing concern among lawmakers regarding the ramifications of the ongoing crisis, particularly in Lofa County, where local residents have begun mobilizing to defend their homeland.
“We cannot afford to abandon our posts and go on recess when our nation is facing such a dire crisis,” he warned.
“Our responsibility is to protect our homeland, and that begins with taking decisive action together as one body.” Rep. Seboe stressed.
The situation has become increasingly alarming following multiple incidents of Guinean military personnel allegedly encroaching on what is internationally recognized as Liberian territory.
According to the latest reports, Guinean forces have been aggressively asserting control over border areas, sparking fears of a potential conflict.
