The Embassy of India in collaboration with the Liberia government and international partners, on June 21, 2025, commemorated activities marking the 11th International Day of Yoga in Monrovia.
The colorful traditional Indian event was commemorated under the theme, “Yoga for one Earth, One Health”, while highlighting it’s universal message of inner peace, resilience, and sustainable living.
Rooted in ancient Indian history, Yoga goes far beyond just physical movement. It us a universal science of inner balance and holistic well-being. At a time when stress, lifestyle, diseases, and mental health challenges are on the rise, yoga offers steady, time-tested path to find calm within ourselves and live more peacefully with those around us.

The International day of Yoga, was initiated by a UN General Assembly resolution in 2014, and has since evolved into a global phenomenon, promoting health and well-being.
This year’s event is very special as it marks the decadal edition.
In a personal message to his Liberian counterpart on the occasion of international Day of Yoga, Indian Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, reflected on the deeper meaning of yoga which echoes a vita truth that personal wellness and planetary health are inseparablely linked.
In an expressed appreciation and sense of gratitude, the Indian Prime Minister recognized Liberia’s steadfast support and contribution in embracing, promoting, and advancing the shared heritage of humanity through the spirit of yoga.
“I look forward to your continued support in making this year’s International Day of Yoga a bigger success. Building on our past experience, India would be honoured to work with your country in showcasing the multifaceted benefits of Yoga, including, through joint scientific research, exchanges of traditional knowledge, and innovative wellness initiatives grounded in Yoga”, says Indian Prime Minister.
His communication concluded by underscoring the need for reaffirmation to a shared commitment to building a healthier, more peaceful and sustainable future for all.

In Monrovia, Indian Ambassador, Manoj B. Verma, acknowledged the presence of the Liberian government through the Ministry of Health and the Monrovia City Corporation for their participation- stating, it shows a strong bond and growing friendship between India and Liberia.
He appreciated what he calls, the continued support in people-to-people connections between his Country and Liberia.
Ambassador Verma also used the occasion to recognize the presence and participation of the United Nations and other international partners which according to him, highlights the global significance of the day and the universal appeal of yoga as a holistic means of achieving physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
“This 11th edition is not only a moment of celebration but also one of reflection on how yoga has grown into a global force for wellness, embraced by people across ages, cultures, and walks of life. During challenging times, including the COVID-19 pandemic, yoga has served as a source of inner strength and solidarity” says ambassador Verma.
He encouraged all to carry forward the message of peace, well-being, and unity through the practice of yoga.

For her part, Liberia’s deputy Health Minister Dr. Catherine Cooper, thanked the Indian community for organizing the event, and pledged her government’s continuous commitment in enhancing the existing diplomatic relations between the two Countries.
