Guinean Armed Forces Cross Makona River and Deploy Weapons on Liberian Territory; Aimed to have security to security dialogue amid border dispute

Guinean Armed Forces Cross Makona River and Deploy Heavy Weapons on Liberian Territory

Monrovia, Liberia- Guinean soldiers have reportedly crossed into Liberian territory, deploying weapons and attempting to hoist their national flag in the presence of Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) officers.

The incident occurred near the Makona River, a disputed border area, just hours after an Emergency MRU summit was held in Conakry to de-escalate tensions.
The move has sparked concerns over Liberia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, with reports indicating that Guinean forces had previously halted sand-mining operations and seized equipment belonging to a Liberian company, BK Enterprise.
The situation remains fluid, with diplomatic efforts underway to resolve the dispute.
Meanwhile, both countries securities are working collectively to ensure a smooth operation.
