The Speaker of the House of Representatives Richard Nagbe Koon has assured concern marketers of amacibly resolving the long standing market ownership crisis.
Speaking during a brief petitioning ceremony Speaker Koon said the plights of the marketers are of serious concern as such the plenary will work to ensure that the issue is addressed in one week time.
His statement was re-echoed by the chair on Executive at the house of Representatives Sekou Konneh who received the petition and appreciated the marketers and assured them that the plenary will look into it with the hope of finding a solution to the situation.
His brief remarks came after scores of concern market women Tuesday stormed the ground of the Capitol Building demanding the keys to their West Point market facility allegedly seized by Representative Emmanuel Dahn of District seven, Montserrado County.
Holding placards and chanting battle cry, the concern women through their petition alleged that Representative Dahn has refused to adhere to the court ruling which among other things give the Liberia Marketing Association the right to own and use the facility.
Reading the concern marketers petition Andina Sesay said the matter which is affecting their livelihood including the peace and stability of their community needs urgent intervention for redress.
She narrated that on August 21, 2024, the six judicial circuit court of Montserrado County issued a ruling mandating that the West Point market facility be officially turned over to the Liberia Marketing Association following investigation exercise and assistance from the Liberia National Police and the sherif of the court .
The Court’s decision also followed a long standing dispute over the management and rightful costodianship over the market infrastructure which the LMA’s believe , the Court acted well, did justice to the matter in accordance with the law.
” As a lawmaker, we respected him and give him the market keys following his request but since that time, he is yet to return the key and this is sad and unfortunate “, they blasted.
Representative Dahn in collaboration with the Township Commissioner of West Point they stated continue to unlawfully take possession of the key despite the court ruling something they termed as complete disregard for the respect of the rule of law.
The district number seven representative decision the marketers say is a direct threat to the hundreds of marketers including the peace and stability of their community.
Moreover, The concern marketers who called for timely intervention into their plights threatened unspecified actions in demand of their rights and value.
