The Acting Executive Director of InfoQuest Liberia Ezekiel Allen has termed as scaring recent clashes between state security individuals especially officers of the Liberia National Police and the Armed Forces of Liberia.
Mr. Allen speaking to reporters stated that what is so worrisome is to see professional people who should be providing security and protection for the people be seen in the Public fighting.
According to him, such unprofessional act exhibited by officers of the two security institutions is not only concerning but a disgrace to the security sector of the Country as a whole.
“This is a complete embarrassment, who do the people rely on for security and protection if such is happening in our Country “, Mr. Allen blasted.
He used the ocassion to challenge President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to in a timely manner and form commission an investigation into the matter and ensure that those linked to the Saga are punished for their actions.
At the same time, he encouraged that following the conduct of said investigation, findings should be made to the public to have the people informed as well as understand clearly what really happened and what exact actions or punishments have been taking against those responsible .
“Let this not be the usual thing where when issues happened investigation are commissioned but at the end , the people don’t understand the detail of the situation and are left in limbo resulting into repeated situations of the same at some time different nature “, he added.
The InfoQuest Acting Executive Director urged the current government of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to lift up to its promise of being open and accountable to the people at all times.
Speaking on other national issues, Mr. Allen commended President Boakai for his recent decision to suspend non compliant government officials who failed to declare their assets after repeated calls both by InfoQuest Liberia and other concern citizens of the Country.
Allen stressed that the President decision is welcoming but also wants the matter of actuality issue surroundings the suspension be looked into carefully.
“Some suspended officials claimed that they filed all of their documents prior to the decision taken by the President yet their names were shortlisted making specific reference to Health Minister Dr. Louis Kpoto”, he added.
According to him, there is a need for greater collaboration with the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission and the Executive Mansion in streamlining these issues to avoid public embarrassment where people will be suspended and their reputation placed at stick.
