Liberia has announced its candidacy for a seat on the African Union Peace and Security Council (AU PSC) for the 2026-2028 term, seeking to represent the Western Region of Africa.
This move underscores Liberia’s commitment to promoting peace, security, and solidarity across the continent.
The election for the AU PSC seat will take place during the 48th Ordinary Session of the African Union Executive Council in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on February 11-12.
Liberia’s bid is notable as it coincides with its tenure on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for 2026-2027, positioning the country to amplify Africa’s voice in global and regional peace efforts.
“Liberia’s candidacy demonstrates its dedication to fostering stability and unity in Africa,” said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The country’s experience in post-conflict recovery and peacekeeping missions makes it an ideal candidate for the AU PSC.
Liberia’s dual membership in the AU PSC and UNSC presents a rare opportunity to bridge African priorities at regional and global levels.
If elected, Liberia pledges to prioritize conflict resolution, inclusive governance, and collaborative diplomacy.
