The One Power Vocational School located New Kru Town Bushrod Island has congratulated Deputy Minister for TVET at the Ministry of Youth and Sports on his recent confirmation by the Liberian Senate.
Presenting a canvas bearing the image of the minister and a congratulatory message to the minister on the 27th of March 2024, The CEO of the institution Joshua Paul Nugba said, One Power Vocational School was founded in April 2021 to buttress government’s efforts in training young people to contribute to the motherland after graduation.
He furthered that he sees Minister Nyonton as someone who is qualify and able to transform the TVET sector in Liberia. Therefore, it is his wish that the minister will include all TVET institutions across the country in his workings and not focus only on what he described as “elite schools” as was done by his predecessors.
“The past government was only focused on the elite schools found in central Monrovia, Sinkor and Paynesville. It is my hope that you will not do the same. Schools from the slum communities should be included as well”. He said.
Receiving the canvas from the CEO of One Power United Vocational School, Deputy Minister for TVET Laraamand Nyonton said it is received with the same spirit it was given. He acknowledged the fact that there are enormous challenges facing the young people of Liberia adding that the government alone cannot do it all so it speaks to the courage and innovation of private sector providers who have decided to step in and fill in some of the gabs as they all work together to empower the young people of this generation.
He added that the president has place in a bill seeking the birth of the Liberia TVET Commission LiTCOM something which he said will transform technical vocational educational and training in Liberia.
” We have to take a robust action to re-imagine and reinvent TVET. There are multiple young people out there, some are out of high school and not doing anything, some are high school dropout. We have the at- risk youth who are into drugs. The challenges are enormous and the government alone can not do everything. But one thing I can promise One Power and all private providers is that we’re working to ensure that we bring back sanity to governance and leadership of TVET. The president has placed a bill in his one hundred days deliverables seeking the birth of the Liberal TVET Commission (LiTCOM) which will bring the workings of TVET under one governing body. If that happens institutions like One Power Vocational School will not only be recognized, but will be a major stakeholder in the advancement of the TVET sector”. Deputy TVET minister assured.
