MONROVIA, Liberia – The office of Grand Kru County Senator Numene T. H. Bartekwa, Chairperson of the County Legislative Caucus, has appointed veteran Liberian journalist Desmond Gbeleh Wion as Public Relations Officer, effective June 1, 2026.

In a statement, the senator’s office said the appointment reflects Wion’s “proven professional competence, dedication, and long-standing commitment to supporting the senator’s work and the people of Grand Kru County.”

As PRO, Wion will oversee all public communications for the office while his duties include drafting press releases and media statements, coordinating interviews and media engagements, covering official events, managing digital platforms, documenting legislative and community projects through photographs and reports, and expanding public awareness of the senator’s initiatives.

The office expressed confidence that Wion’s media background will enhance representation and visibility for Grand Kru County.

Reacting to the appointment, Wion described it as an “honor and privilege to serve Senator Bartekwa and the people of Grand Kru,” adding that the role is “not a right, but an opportunity” to advance county interests.

“This is a transition from mainstream journalism to public service,” Wion said. “Lawmaker offices belong to the people.

I will ensure Senator Bartekwa’s office remains visible, accessible, and responsive to citizens and the media. Our development initiatives will be communicated effectively to every community.”

Wion thanked the senator for the trust placed in him and pledged to uphold ethical standards of public relations.

He brings more than a decade of media experience to the role, having served as Co-host at SEAL FM 90.5 FM, Reporter at ABC Radio 105.1 FM, Roaming Reporter at Voice of Liberia 104.1 FM, Reporter at Liberia News Network, Editor-in-Chief at Angel TV, and Senior Reporter at Democracy Watch Newspaper.

The appointment comes as Senator Bartekwa’s office intensifies efforts to improve citizen engagement and public information on legislative and development activities in Grand Kru County.
