The Speaker of the 55th National Legislature Richard Nagbe Koon has officially met with his Nigerian counterpart, Tajudeen Abbas Julius Ihonvbere, Kingsley Chinda, speaker, majority and minority leader of the Nigerian Parliament, in Abuja.
Speaker Koon during their meeting affirmed the Liberian House of Representatives commitment to strengthen cooperation and partnership with the Nigerian parliament.
He also emphasized both countries Trade relations, whilst fostering peace and security on a regional level and promoting solidity among others.
At the same time, Speaker Koon highlighted the need for a transformed Legislature to incorporate and reflect current day reality including modernization.
During a brief meeting speaker Koon also pointed out the review of major concessions in Liberia and the need to make amendments on the House’s rules and procedures.
Speaker Koon while acknowledging the essential role played by Nigeria over the years for Liberia was also quick to recall and recount the long-standing bond between Liberia and Nigeria namely the fourteen years of civil and ebola Crisis in Liberia.
Specifically he underscored the level of interventions Nigeria have made in Liberia mainly in Health, education, security commerce and trade, among others.
Moreover, the head of the house of Representatives of Liberia presented warm greetings on behalf of he and his delegation and expressed appreciation to the majority & minority leaders of Nigeria whist spotlighting his maternal relation with Nigeria.
As part of their discussion, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas of the Nigerian parliament who provided warm reception to the Liberian delegation headed by Speaker Koon said he is hopeful to return the visit sometimes soon to Liberia.
Meanwhile, the high level Liberian delegation headed by Richard Nagbe Koon Speaker of the 55th Legislature also included Nehkeh E. Gaye, Chair House committee on Foreign Affairs, Foday Fahnbulleh Chair on committee on concessions, Samson Q. Wiah Co-Chair house committee on Maritime , Madam Mccdella Cooper Political Advisor to President- Joseph Nyuma Boakai and Emmanuel K. Togba Senior Resource officer, Office of the Speaker respectively.
