The debate surrounding the purchase of the controversial Lexus Vehicle for President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has now taking a new trent following latest revelation by Presidential Press Secretary Kula Fofana.
Addressing execution Mansion Reporters at a regular press briefing, Presidential Press Secretary Fofana attributed one of the reasons for the purchased of new vehicle for President Joseph Nyuma Boakai was due to faulty vehicle previously presented by the former Government headed by former President George Weah.
According to her, the vehicle presented by the past government was allegedly in bad shape and conditions and has led to some embarrassment for the current President.
” The vehicle given broke down when President Boakai was in it and it was so embarrassing, the situation took place in Grand Cape Mount County last year following President Boakai’s return from the opening of the National County Sports Meet last year”, she explained.
Speaking further she also pointed out the security of the President is very important as such was advised by the Executive Protection Service to purchase new vehicle for him.
When asked about the actual cost of the vehicle she remained tightlipped but however stated that all of the procedures relative to the purchasing were followed.
As the debate widens, the opposition has argued that the justification by the Presidential Press Secretary is allegedly poor, weak and is more political than the actual reality.
Since the arrival and usage of the Lexus Vehicle especially in the convey of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, it has received heavy criticism from across the Country.
Even though the government has stated that the President’s security is key but opposition who put the cost of the Lexus Vehicle at approximately 1.2m unconfirmed, but others argued that the usage of such luxury vehicle by the President is not timely especially when the economy is very hard and the people are struggling to make ants meat.
Providing updates on other issues, she disclosed that the President is very concerned about the recent power outage issue at the Roberts International Airport.
Placing priority on the issue, Kula said the President has set up a committee to look at the root cause of the situation as he is awaiting the reports for prompt action.
When asked about the yellow machine issue, she told Executive Mansion Reporters that discussions surrounding said issue are in its concluding stage and that she will provide latest information to the public when officially finalized.
Due to other reasons, she also pointed out that initial date set in house for the County tour has been changed stating that she will provide more information when the new dates shall have been finalized.
